Original Air France Poster - Africa, by Nathan - 1960
Created in 1960 by the artist Nathan for Air France, this original poster powerfully reflects the modernist vision of Africa as expressed in the airline’s advertising campaigns of the era. Printed in lithography by Courbet in Paris, it showcases the dialogue between Western graphic art and stylized African influences.
The central image - a totemic figure with geometric features - draws freely from traditional African masks, reinterpreted through a resolutely contemporary visual language: bold color blocks in midnight blue, ochre, and brick red; angular shapes; and abstract symmetries. This stylized image evokes both the otherness and cultural richness of the African continent, within a layout that is as minimalist as it is iconic.
Original lithographic poster, linen-backed, measuring 38.9 x 24.4 inches, in A condition. An emblematic piece of 1960s graphic style, blending stylized exoticism with refined promotional design.
