Vintage travel poster - Guiraud Rivière - 1934 - L'Affrique Du Nord Par Avion Air France - Small Size - 19.7 by 11.8 inches

This original travel poster by Air France dates from 1934 and was issued in two sizes: the standard size and as a smaller poster which was more common between 1934 and 1951. Depicting the city of Marrakech, it promotes tourism between France and Morocco and more generally North Africa. The illustrator celebrates the Koutoubia located between the Medina and the new town, with the Atlas Mountains in the far horizon. The wonderful sky gradient is a signature of the Guiraud-Rivière studio who printed this lithography. Maurice Guiraud-Rivière (1871-1947) was a prominent French painter, illustrator and sculptor from the art-deco school. Spearheading Air France poster design, he also produced posters for the Morrocan national railway company and was known as an orientalist painter. This vintage poster is one of the first commissioned by Air France.
