This antique advertising poster, signed by the renowned artist and poster designer Jules Chéret, was printed in lithography by the Chaix printing house in Paris in 1888.
“La Lanterne” was a French republican daily newspaper founded in the late 19th century.
Here, Jules Chéret illustrates an advertisement for a serialized novel published in the newspaper: “P’tit Mi,” written by René Maizeroy. The scene depicts an elegant couple: a blonde woman in a pastel pink dress, seated with her back turned and showing her profile, while a man dressed in a black suit kneels at her feet and kisses her hand, set against the backdrop of a Parisian park. The title of the novel, displayed at the top of the image, stands out in vivid red lettering against a blue-green background.
The original poster, very old and therefore rare and difficult to find in such fine condition, measures approximately 47.8 by 34.1 inches. It is linen-backed.
