This original antique travel poster, created by de Gauvain around 1910, depicts Évian and Lake Geneva in an advertisement for the Paris Lyon Méditerranée railway network. It was printed in chromolithography by Prieur et Dubois & Compagnie in Puteaux.
The illustration is rendered in a highly naturalistic manner, with soft tonal gradations and a romantic light. It perfectly reflects the style of late 19th-century and early 20th-century tourist posters, heirs to the academic landscape tradition.
The presence of the funicular, constructed between 1907 and 1913, helps to more precisely date the production of this poster. The illustrator chose to portray the Évian region by combining scenes of nature with architectural elements along the shores of Lake Geneva.
Linen-backed, it measures 29.1 by 40.6 inches.
