Created in 1960 by Jean Jacquelin for the SNCF, this original travel poster invites viewers to discover Corsica through a vision of the island that is both majestic and timeless. Printed in lithography by Hubert Baille in Paris, it belongs to the great tradition of post-war French travel posters, designed to attract travelers in search of unspoiled landscapes and Mediterranean escape.
The composition features a citadel perched atop a rocky outcrop, overlooking a mountainous landscape bathed in radiant light. In the foreground, a traveler riding a donkey crosses a stone bridge, while a frame of vivid green foliage opens the scene like a theatrical backdrop. Simplified forms, bold areas of color, and geometric shadows lend the image a distinctly modern aesthetic, where the power of the Corsican landscape is combined with elegant graphic stylization.
The contrast between the deep blue sky, the warm tones of the rock, and the luminous greens of the vegetation creates an atmosphere of serenity and grandeur. The image celebrates an authentic Corsica, still largely untouched by mass tourism, where nature, history, and tradition seem to exist in perfect harmony.
Original lithograph poster printed by Hubert Baille, linen-backed, measuring 39 x 24.4 inches, and in A+ condition. A remarkable SNCF travel poster, prized both for its decorative appeal and for its poetic evocation of Corsica in the 1960s.
