Vintage airline posters

The airline collection includes original posters from airline companies and the airforce featuring recruitment posters, aircraft rallies, air shows or industry exhibitions and exotic destinations. The iconic Air France posters cover the years from 1934 to the 1970s. Other legendary airlines of which the TWA, PanAmerican or BOAC also released beautifully illustrated posters such as those signed by David Klein, but none really matched Air France’s flair for this new medium and the art of commissioning artists to create wonderful illustrations. For thirty years Lucien Boucher illustrated world maps, illuminated like an incunable. Images and posters dating from the 1930s to the 1960s are all of exceptional quality. The first brilliant illustrators, Guiraud-Rivière, Roger de Valerio, Paolo Federico Garetto, Holz, Edmond Maurus, Vinci or Albert Solon, portrayed the aviation industry in all its glory as airlines made a successful foray into the world of illustrated posters. Cassandre’s 1932 Air-Orient illustration which promotes the air mail service, stands out for its avant-garde art-deco contribution. Between 1946 and 1953, Air France commissioned emblematic advertising campaigns with drawings or paintings by Vincent Guerra, Jean Even, Guy Arnoult, Yasse Tabuchi, Bernard Villemot or Paul Colin. The latter signed the Air-Union Tunisia poster in 1949 and beautifully enhanced the style of airline posters blending typography and iconic illustrations.
